Facilities & Activities
Restaurants & Bars
ECO Bar (ON SITE)
You’ll find both traditional and artisanal cocktails at our ECO Bar, where cool sea breezes are regularly on tap. There’s nothing quite like an East Coast sunset – the cotton candy skies reflect on the water, creating an incredible surrounding light. As the moon rises, the nightlife here runs at a quieter pace – you’ll have the sound of the waves, some good stories shared with fellow guests and a sky full of stars to entertain you. From time to time we’ll feature low-key live music and instruments are available if you’re up for a spontaneous jam session. You might even get Chef Alisha to come out and sing a song or two – she’s an incredibly talented singer!
ECO Pantry (ON SITE)
The ECO Pantry provides our guests with a convenient option for snacks, drinks and foods-to-go under a ‘cash + carry’ system. Our weekly offerings are listed at both our reception desk and the ECO Bar, including chia bowls, smoothies, elixirs and salads as well as baked treats, power balls and hard-boiled eggs. Enjoy right here at ECO, or pack a picnic lunch for one of your daily adventures. We also offer coffee, tea, soft drinks, wine and selected liquors. We’ll gladly stock your fridge with your preferred selections prior to your arrival; drop us a note and we’ll provide you with the current menu.
ECO Restaurant (ON SITE) - Plant-based and Organic
The primarily plant-based menu uses fresh ingredients including organic fruits, vegetables and dairy as well as cage-free eggs from our neighboring farms, fresh seafood caught in nearby waters and nourishing greens foraged on-island. We’re proud to support local businesses and individual growers; working together with our fishermen and farmers, we’re creating a true farm and sea-to-table restaurant experience. We have now started our very own off site organic gardens, ensuring a fresh harvest of the most nutritious provisions right onto your plate.
Activities
Catamarans
Explore the island’s beautiful coastline with one of the best views possible – from the sea! Catamaran cruises are a wonderful way to spend the day soaking up our warm Caribbean sunshine. Cruises include drinks, cocktails and a buffet-style lunch. Take a dip, snorkel and swim with the turtles during the catamaran’s stops along the shoreline, or simply enjoy listening to the waves or music while you sunbathe on deck.
Hands-on (crafts)
Forget the plastic tchotchkes – create an authentic craft during a workshop with one of our favorite local artisans. We currently offer pottery, painting, photography and traditional basket weaving, but check with us on what’s available during your stay!
Gully Excursions / Foraging
The East Coast is one of the least developed regions in Barbados – you can still find natural gullies with towering ancient trees, lush green foliage and tropical flora. One of our seasoned local guides will take you on an excursion to learn about natural remedies, cooking ingredients and health boosters. This is a great activity for those interested in incorporating traditional methods in their daily lifestyle.
Horseback Riding
The East Coast of Barbados is an excellent spot to explore by horseback. Tours can take you on cart roads through the lush countryside and along the sandy coast of the Atlantic Ocean. Discover deserted bays, sleepy fishing villages and panoramic views stretching to the horizon. Full moon rides in the cool night air are transformative; listen to the night sounds as discover Barbados in a new way. Tours are available for beginners and more experienced riders.
Hiking
The East Coast of Barbados is a great spot for hiking, and trails match all abilities. One of the popular treks runs from Bathsheba to Bath Beach; your guide will take you along meandering cart roads through the countryside, with snacks and drinks in hand. Reward yourself with a rest at the beach before returning to ECO for a hydration cocktail. Nearby gullies, filled with ancient trees, and the rocky cliff faces also make for a great climb. Let us know your ability level and we’ll find the right guide for you.
Mountain Biking
Explore the Barbados countryside by bike. A local guide will take you to the best spots on – and off – the beaten path to discover parts of the island few get to see. The tours are kept small; explore quiet beaches and hidden surf spots, rugged terrain and challenging tracks. You can also tap into local culture with a stop for lunch and refreshment along the ride. This is a real adrenaline pumper, and can be customized to any skill level!
Deep Sea Fishing
Just a mile offshore you can find word-class deep sea fishing; in season, catch Wahoo, Sailfish, Tuna, Barracuda and Dolphin (Mahi Mahi). The West Coast waters are sheltered from the major tradewinds, and inshore fishing is a great experience for beginners and seasoned anglers alike – get right in the action with a hand line on one of the local skiffs. The east coast is also a great spot for surfcasting, taking on an almost meditative vibe as the sun begins to set. Whatever your method, we’ll cook your catch in the ECO Kitchen!
Freediving/Spearfishing
A large part of spear fishing is gaining an appreciation for the food we eat. In a modern world of fast food, this is one of the slowest ways to put a meal on the table! Free dive off the shore to find an array of reef fish and a local delicacy called sea cat (similar to squid). In the spirit of our beliefs, you won’t fish in restricted areas, fish anything that is out of season or endangered, and you can eat what you catch – we’re happy to help you prepare it at the ECO Kitchen!
Stand Up Paddle Boarding
Stand Up Paddle Boarding in Barbados, or SUP, is an exciting way to enjoy some time out on the sea. Using an oversized surfboard and a paddle, experienced riders can catch waves at Parlors and High Rock, two great surf breaks located just below ECO. Our SUP Guides can also take you to the west or south coasts where you can make your way along the coastline, dotted with reefs, sea turtles and even a few shipwrecks. We also recommend sunset and full moon paddles!
Barbados Surfing
At ECO, you’re just a short walk from three popular spots: Soup Bowl, known for hollow tubes and long walls; Parlors, accessible by a long paddle over deep water to access thick, juicy rights and lefts; and High Rock, sandwiched between the others, provides both rights and lefts well suited to less experienced surfers. The gentler west coast waters get their share of 8’ swells in the winter season, typically energized by a north swell. Under quieter conditions, the west is a great place for beginners to catch their first waves. The south coast is more consistent, yet rarely breaks in the summer months unless influenced by a local storm. All island-wide surf spots can be reached within 40 minutes or so, and we can arrange an instructor or local guide to take you to the best spots on the island.
Wellness
Zen Gully
WE’RE GROWING A VARIED SOURCE OF LOCAL + ORGANIC INGREDIENTS, INCLUDING COOKING HERBS, FRUIT + COCONUT TREES, EDIBLE FLOWERS AND NURTURING PLANTS SUCH AS JUSTICA, MORINGA AND ASPERA. We nourish the gully through composting and natural stream water. We’re experimenting to see what else we can grow by the sea!
ECO SKY WATER
ECO SKY WATER is the brain child of our owners to aid in the solution of healthy and sustainable drinking water. With water scarcity on the rise globally, we knew there must be a better way. Powered solely by solar energy, we extract water from thin air, add minerals and bottle right in our solar powered facility. Staying true to our environmental pledge, we package our still and sparkling water in glass bottles with seeded paper labels, and our still water in 100% non-GMO plant based sport bottles. You can find these in your room upon arrival, as well as at our bar.
Cascading Baths and Cob Sauna
Enjoy ECO’s new soothing saltwater baths, cascading down our oceanfront terrace. Relax your muscles with the Jacuzzi jets, enjoy an ECO cocktail or elixir, and take in the sights and sounds of the Atlantic Ocean as the day (or previous night’s) activities melt away. Steam stress away in ECO’s Cob Sauna, one of our newest additions to the property. Constructed using ancient building methods, the sauna’s thick walls are made from a mixture of clay soil, sand and straw. Stones heated on a wood-burning stove generate a cleansing steam, which will refresh body, mind and spirit.
Meal Plans + Cleanses
One of the best parts of island living is daily access to farm and sea-fresh ingredients – our kitchen works with local growers and fishermen to source the best available for our daily menus. We’re happy to work with you on a customized meal plan for your stay – whether you have specialized dietary requirements or a healthy goal in mind, we’re here to support you! Our nutrition specialists can also design a cleanse program to complement your holiday activities.
Massage + Spa Treatments
We can also book massage therapy and other spa treatments in the privacy of your room – a perfect way to relax after your flight or a day out on an island adventure. Enjoy an ECO hydration cocktail after your session for an extra bit of R+R.
Yoga, Pilates + Personal Training
During your stay, enjoy yoga, pilates and personal training sessions right here at ECO. We can arrange private sessions for small groups or individuals with an experienced teacher – our tribe have been internationally trained in a variety of styles, and whether you’re a newbie or experienced, you’ll love stretching out on our oceanfront deck – the fresh sea breeze is rejuvenating!
